UEFA Club Competitions – Participating clubs payments, Explained.

Deal Club Representatives,

Last week we shared in the CAP the details of UEFA Club Competitions (UCC) payments to clubs for season 2021/22. After sharing earlier this week the details of the UCC revenue composition and its distribution, let’s now have a closer look at the payments to participating clubs.

Part 2/3 – UEFA Club Competitions Revenues: Breakdown of distribution payments to UCC participants

For 2021/22, out of the €3’614.4 million generated by UEFA Club Competitions, 78.6% went to participating clubs, representing a total of €2’842.6 million. This amount was then split between competitions, 75% for the Champions Leagues/Super Cup and 25% for Europa League and Europa Conference League. In 2021/22, an additional €20 million was added to the distribution pot representing the amounts withheld from Financial Fair Play settlement agreements. On the other hand, €33.1 million was deducted as additional solidarity in favor of non-participating clubs and a pro-rata re-payments of €97.6 million from the Covid-19 advance was also deducted. Which brings the total club share for season 2021/22 to €2’731.9 million.

The net amount available to participating clubs (€2’731.9) has been then split into four different pillars. Each competition having its own percentages:

UEFA Champions League :

In total, €2 031.9 million was distributed to Champions League clubs (and Super Cup participants) in 2021/22. The 32 teams participating in the group-stage received a starting fee of €15.64 million, representing a total of €500.5 million. UEFA allocated €600.3 million to the 32 clubs in the group-stage according to a coefficient ranking system. A further €300.3 million was distributed according to the proportional value of each TV market represented by the clubs taking part in the UEFA Champions League from the group-stage onwards. Finally, UEFA allocated €600.7 million as performance-related fixed amounts in the group and knockout stages.

UEFA Europa League & UEFA Europa Conference League :

In total €465 million was allocated to clubs participating in the Europa League and €235 million to Europa Conference League. Based on these amounts, the same distribution model as for the Champions League was applied to both competitions, in accordance with each competition’s pillars percentages.
