Dear Club Representatives,
Last week, we proactively shared information with you regarding the allocation of commercial revenue to clubs for the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League (UCL), UEFA Europa League (UEL), and UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL).
Now that the qualifying rounds have concluded and the complete list of participating clubs for the UEFA Club Competitions (UCC) is known, we are pleased to provide you with additional details concerning the allocation of revenue based on club coefficient ranking.
How is the UEFA club coefficient ranking calculated?
The coefficient of a club is calculated by adding the total number of points it obtains in a given season in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.
A club's five-season coefficient is the cumulative total of the previous five seasons' coefficients, or 20% of its association's five-season association coefficient, whichever is higher. Points awarded each season are in accordance with the relevant competition regulations for that specific season, so the following apply only to the awarding of points in the 2021/22 season. The five-year coefficient is mainly used for seeding and the determination of the UCC group stage pot draw.
The ten-year ranking is primarily used for revenue distribution. It follows the same calculation method as the five-year coefficient but on a ten-year period, but also takes into account historical success in UCC by awarding points for each title won.
How are the fees allocated based on club coefficient ranking?
Fees will be distributed based on performances over a ten-year period. Upon the determination of all clubs qualified for the UCC group stage, a ranking of the participating clubs will be established. The total allocation for the Coefficient Ranking pillar will be divided into "shares," each with a specific value for each competition:
· UEFA Champions League: €1.137 million
· UEFA Europa League: €123,000
· UEFA Europa Conference League: €44,500
The lowest-ranked team will receive one share, and one share will be added for each subsequent rank, with the highest-ranked team receiving 32 shares.
